Hi All,
Great little community you have here :-)
What codec do all the video files use? I am unable to view any of the videos, and want to pick up some tips for getting over 12,000.
Cheers,
Tabber. |

Hi tabber,
First of all, welcome on this forum!!
I had exactly the same problem as you and what I did was to install as much codec packs as I could find, and that solved my problem .
Good luck,

Welcome to the forums. I have trouble viewing all the AVI videos from my laptop at home, but they work for me in the office. Don't know why though.
Teh main tip I can give for achieving speed improvements is to train your endurance. A good exercise is to get the Powerball going as fast as you can for as long as you can...literally until your arm muscles are full of lactic acid. Rest for a few minutes then do it again and again.
Rest for 15 minutes and then go for a speed trial. My biggest improvement was probably when my record was 12006...I did some endurance then upped me speed record to 12802. Then another time, after an HOUR of constant use, I went up again to almost 13k. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Welcome here!!
I am currently compressing the video files to a divx 6.0 format as far as I know....must be easy to find a codec for this... _________________ Help Gyrotek when you buy your Powerballs, use our banner: International, France, Thanks!! |

Thanks for your replies everyone, and your warm welcome...
I guess i'll try the videos at home, at work right now.
Adrena1in - Thanks for the endurance tip. I heard Akis say this before, but I seem to be stuck on actually physically moving my wrist any faster. At 12k, it seems to be about 4 revolutions of a wrist a second. I honestly feel I can't move any faster than that, or all control just goes out the window
Does endurance help with this? i.e. do you actually start to be able to move your wrist faster than you could before. It doesn't feel like a strength issue, but maybe it is.
I was trying to do that grip Akis does, where he seems to hold it with the counter between finger and thumb, and it looks like he almost shakes the powerball like a ketchup bottle. Needless to say, I had no luck whatsoever, just knocks around in the sphere, and loses speed. Anyone managed to do this?
Cheers,
Tabber. |

I can grip it like Akis does, but I then can't control it properly. But like you say, once you get over 12k and start heading towards 13k you won't actually be gyrating your wrist in circles, but just juddering it back and forth.
How long have you been powerballing for, what's your record? Can you get a good score on each hand?
The secret you need to get past now is moving your hand less and less. I was stuck around 12k for AGES, and when I videod myself doing that sort of speed my hand was moving a lot...six or seven inches up and down and back and forth. As you say, moving your hand like this 4 times a second starts to get practically impossible. However, get to the point where your hand only moves an inch or less and you'll be able to increase the rate. This is where endurance really helps I think. The more you do the more the muscles will get trained and the less your hand will move.
Seriously, if you've got the time, put an hour aside and get the Powerball going, swapping it from hand to hand every 30 seconds or so, and just keep it going at around 10,000 rpm. After the hour your arms will feel all tight-skinned because your muscles will have built up. Have a drink, sit down for ten minutes, then go for some speed records. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Cheers, i'll give that a go.
My record is about 12,800 but one of my friends cleared it my mistake (To yells of NOOOOOooooo... form me, I might add). Since then i've only got up to 12,300. I've only been at it for a few months, bought it on the pretense, that it would improve my golf swing. But who am I kidding, it was mainly because of the gadget aspect :-) Someone brought one into the office, and just off the back of that, about 10 of us bought one. I'm sure they get most of their sales that way.
I keep my wrist fairly still once its going, and can get into 11k doing that, but to get the extra, I point my arm at the floor, and end up moving my wrist a lot more to get the extra 1k+
Thinking about it, when I got the 12,800 I had been doing it for a long time. Me and some friends kept passing it back and forth, so maybe that just really warmed my muscles up. Have only used the 90s mode a couple of times, so i'll take your advice and give that some attention before I try speed again. Saw your 90s score - very impressive....
My wife can get over 10k, so I might have to get her to post to the females board :-)
Cheers,
Tabber. |

I'm sure I can do better. When I look back I'm more impressed with my one-handed records. But if you want to see impressive, watch Akis doing nearly 20,000!

So, did you download all the latest codecs tabber? Doesn't tend to work for me in the office because of my Firewall, but I think my Media Player and QuickTime installations are pretty up to date, and I don't have problems on my work PC. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)
