I bought a 50 gram block of magnesium carbonate yesterday at a local store. It's the white powder that weight lifters and others that need a good grip use. It seems to work very well with powerballs too.
I may have unusually sweaty hands but I definitely need something that improves my grip. I normally wear a black leather glove that I put a few drops of water on and that gives a very good grip too. |

I tend to have slightly sweaty hands, but don't have a problem with a regular Powerball. It's the Metal I have issues with. I've tried a balloon stretched over the Powerball, and that works well, but doesn't last very long. I've also tried rubber gloves, but they don't work with the rotor near my hand.
I do have a small tub of grip-stuff which I used to use for badminton, so I've taken that home, but haven't given it a try yet. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

For me its weird, because my hands are sweaty at the beginning of my runs and after a while, after a few runs I mean, my hands begin to dry and there is no grip problem anymore _________________ Help Gyrotek when you buy your Powerballs, use our banner: International, France, Thanks!! |

I start a session and I'll usually have very dry hands, but the effort will make me sweat a bit. The heat and slight moisture actually tends to make my grip better. Even with the Metal, (though I've never been able to grip that properly!). _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Edouard mentioned in another thread that he uses liquid magnesium to get a better grip. I got very curious and ordered a bottle myself. The brand I bought was Beal Pure Grip 250 ml bottle and it costed me with shipping 150 Swedish Kronor which is about 16 Euro. I got it today and I can confirm that it gives a very good grip, it's even better than the magnesium block I used before! The liquid consists of alcohol, magnesium carbonate, thickener and scent which smells like wood or something . When you put it on your skin the alcohol will evaporate and the magnesium carbonate stays. I think the alcohol also makes your skin dry and cool so you get even better grip.
I made a couple of speed runs with my metal powerball and I had no problems with the grip. I got a new speed record, 12714 RPM. A minor problem I had was that the digital counter also got magnesium on it so the score was harder to see, so don't use liquid on the area of your hand where you put the counter.
You can also get magnesium dust inside the powerball, so be careful with that. I'm not sure how good alcohol is for your hands but I suppose it's not too dangerous. |
