I'm amazed with Shazam's technique and the ease with which he manages his scores, seems effortless.

From what I've seen in the videos Shazam and Akis have similar techniques, only Akis combines it with his power.

I hope Shazam reads this thread and explain to us how he does it in detail. As well as taking as through in one of his videos. Hopefully he can record a video where we can clearly see how he grips the ball with each hand and how he rotates his wrist.

I know the secret is in locking the wrist but that is easier said than done. I don't dream of getting to 15k if I can't learn to do this. I know I need to train, but technique is 60% of the score, I need to learn to transfer from my technique to Shazam's.

My technique really sucks, because. It's based on a firm grip and power. All I do is spin the ball to about 10 -11k then lock the wrist and turn my forearm back and forth as hard as possible, in 4 - 6 seconds I'm on 14K+.

Some of you will say that we all use a technique that suits as well, we that technique can only takes us so far. In the end we all need to have good endurance, firm grip, and a locked wrist that will allow us to give more speed to a ball spinning at 14000 - 14500 RPM.

Just a thought.

I always though Shazam holds the Powerball with a fairly "regular" grip, with the rotor to his palm. (Same as MJ.) But out of everyone I think he does have pretty much the best technique. As you say, he makes it look effortless...he moves his hand so little.

Akis has the most "different" technique that I've seen out of everyone. I think I know how he does it, and why it's one of the best techniques, but I find the grip he uses quite difficult at more than about 11k. Perhaps my hands are just a bit too small.

I'll start a new thread, to try and get people to take close up photos of their method for holding the Powerball.

I'm glad that you are so impressed by my technique !!!

I really practiced a lot to achieve records (sometimes 6 hours a day) so I unconsciously developped a "technique" mostly based on a speed rush which is less tiring for my arms and shoulders.

When I speed up, I try to keep my arm and shoulder completly relaxed as long as possible. That's why I think that 90s warm ups are not good to improve speed because it tightens muscles. For me, a good warm up for speed records is to do speed rushes with the forearm only without tightening muscles.

I'll try to do a closer video ASAP.

I hope this will help you Wink

6 hours a day??? Holy shit! My record is 1.5 hours per day.

But I don't agree with you that 90sec training does not help. It does help because you pump your muscles with it. They simply get bigger and stronger. Of course, you should still do both types of training, otherwise your muscles get slower as you said correctly.

When I got home from work the other day and straight away did 30 speed runs with three different Powerballs, (for my comparison test), I was surprised to get very close to my records. I've NEVER got records, or close to them, without having done lots of endurance first. I don't know what to think of this though. Either;

a) Doing speed runs alone is a good thing, and helps improve the top speed. Or;

b) I was on good form and had I done some endurance first I would've broken my speed records.

I guess I'll never know. What I do know is that a few hours after I did my 30 speed runs, I tried some more speed runs and was getting around 2000 revs less. (Shrug)

Great, looking forward to see that video.

I also find hard to believe endurance don't help much, becuase I believe it does even though I don't practice it, but I guess it has to do with his own "relaxed technique". Anyways, I believetechnique kills endurance... the records showss it, that's why I'll try to focus on technique rather than endurance to improve my scores.

I would have to go with (A) speed alone is definitly good. I know too much endurance kills my top speed

I have problems understanding the technique used when going to high speeds, my own high score is merely 12,7k and normally my scores are in the 12,0 area. I mainly use wrist and shoulder. In this picture (ms paint of course) I do the movements in 1) only (clockwise and back, no other movement with wrist - no waving motion, no clapping motion) and area in 2) stays static. I also try to keep my shoulder relaxed.

I haven't really progressed in the past month or so, bought the ball in january. If anyone could give me pointers (i asked in finnish irc and the only tip was "whip harder"), I would be grateful.

Maybe your wrist can't spin faster for the moment...

My advice would be: focuse on the motion of the rotor, concentrate yourself to always make small circles.

Train only with 30s strenght sessions, and make a lot of speed runs.

After a while you ll HAVE TO be better...otherwise try another Powerball... Smile

I reached almost 13000 in a couple of months, but since then (over a year ago!) I've only progressed to just over 13500. I make rotational movements with my wrist, and tend to move my arm quite a lot, which is my problem.

When I've seen videos of people scoring over 14500, (when the quality and frame-rate are high enough), I've noticed that people's wrists tend to lock and their whole arm vibrates back and forth. You certainly can't move your hand more than about half an inch and expect to score massively. Concentrate on keeping that movement to a minimum and you might notice improvements.

However, I would actually suggest you try extreme endurance. Keep the Powerball going fast, (9000 to 10000 revs), for as long as you can...like 30 minutes to two hours! This repetition will train your muscles into not moving too much. After a long session, rest for 5 or 10 minutes and then go for some speed records. I certainly noticed improvements when I was struggling to reach 13000.

However, I've decided that to get over 13500 this sort of extreme endurance isn't good. (Mind you, I've not done a very long session for ages...perhaps I'll have a two-hour session at the weekend, when I've got some free time, and then see what I can do. I'm certainly off form at the moment, so it might help!).

Gonna try both training styles for sure

- Obiw4n: do you mean the small circles like in this gif

or to continue how I do it now, rotating only one axis?

- Adrena1in: I have no idea how you can do 9-10k for 30mins, i can do that speed for 1,5mins tops, I can't really switch hands either as I have no fingers in my left hand. But going to try a few weeks of endurance marathons too soon as you suggested.

I bought the ball at the same time as my friend who now scores 13,4k and over 13k on daily basis. I'm doing all the record runs with his ball as it seems to give about 200 more rpm. My normal training days are mainly 5-10 speed runs following an undefinedly long pause.

yeah these circles exactly

5-10 runs/ day is not enough....

Should be 20 to 30 at least....

Ah, then that's a problem then, because at those speeds I change hands every 30 to 60 seconds. I guess what you could do it rev it up to speed for 30 - 60 secs, then rest and just allow yourself to keep it spinning slowly for a minute, then rev it up hard again.

In most videos you'll see people spinning the Powerball up with their weaker hand, then switching to their stronger hand for the final blast. Again, you're at a big disadvantage here.
