Posté le: Jeu Oct 06, 2005 5:46 pm Sujet du message: Technique - and which hand?
Watching the various videos it's interesting to see the different techniques. For a start, Akis holds the Powerball with the counter sort of sticking out from the "circle" that his thumb and forefinger creates, and his little finger over the wheel.
I hold the Powerball with the counter pressed into my palm, slightly off-centre and away from my thumb. With my right hand, I rotate my wrist clockwise, but a chap I know rotates his right hand anti-clockwise...he's managed nearly 13,800 and was on the Powerballs.com Top 100 for a while.
Finally, although I'm right handed, my 13,241 record is with my left hand. 13,191 is my right hand record.
What're your techniques and grips and best scores with both hands?

For me it's quite the same, I hold it pressed into my palm, trying to hold it strongly with my thumb, I rotate my wrist anti-clockwise with my right hand and clockwise with my left hand.
But with my left hand I hold it on the other side, and it allows me to switch my hands without changing the rotation direction of the rotor.
Right hand 13696 left hand not far from 12500.
Very good to exceed 13K with both hands, it seems to be the same gift as Akis!! Ch4mPiOn InSiDe !! _________________ Help Gyrotek when you buy your Powerballs, use our banner:International, France, Thanks!!

As I rotated a lot of PB in my both hands I noticed that the balls have a "favourite" rotation way and some are easier to spin the normal way (I mean counter in the palm) and others upside down (rotor facing the palm).
(I think I'm gona work the Akis way of holding the ball but i can figure out exactly how he does it.)
But in both cases I'm better rotating it clockwise for right hand (and anti for left hand).
My left hand best score is 12500+ (but I think I never passed 13k barrier), and my right hand is 14533. _________________ ^v^ Shazam ^v^

Oh yeah, when I'm doing 90s scores I have the counter in my palm for one hand, and the rotor facing my palm with the other hand, to allow for quick changes and keeping the direction of rotation the same. But I find a good grip is much easier with the counter into my palm, for doing high speed runs.
And I think it's because I've done a lot of endurance, with both hands, which is what makes my top speeds with each hand very similar. But my endurance is better with my right hand, so I always start a 90s run with that hand.

I begin a 90s with my weakest hand (left) 20s then 30 to 40s right hand and then swithching depending on the tireness of my hands. _________________ Help Gyrotek when you buy your Powerballs, use our banner:International, France, Thanks!!

Since I have a small hand, I grip the PB almost like a baseball grip. My index , middle and ring fingers are on the counter, the small finger on the side, and my thumb on the bottom part of the PW on the on the edge of the circle. Just part of my palm is on the side of the ball, the rest does not touch the ball.
On the Techno model, a bit more of my palm touches the top of PB.

In both hands the counter is pressed in the palm of my hands, thumb one one side, the other fingers distributed around the powerball (but I can also hold it exactly in the opposite way, which is advantageous for the 90sec duration).
Left hand: anti-clock wise
Right hand: clock wise
I have been experimenting with the position of the Powerball, but in the end this traditional approach seems to work out the best for me.
Shazam....your 14533 sounds very familiar to me from the top100 ranking..what is your name on that scoreboard?

My real name is Mathieu TAUZIN ranked #11 (best #9 with the same score).
What is your nickName on CS 1.6 ? I play a lot ;-), mainly on french servers but sometimes on benelux servers. _________________ ^v^ Shazam ^v^

I hope to be able to enter the top10 also very soon. It's about time...these 6 months of practise ought to have their effect now, don't you think?
I always play on our own servers. I work for Philips and Philips has its own Counter-strike game servers. The clan I belong to is called Team4Fun and most members are, obviously, Philips employees.
There you will not only find the IPs of our servers (6 in total), but also a nice forum, in which you will notice that I have been trying to make other people as enthousiastic about the Powerball as myself . I did not really succeed unfortunately.
Best regards,
Steven van Dijk

Well im not entirely sure how to describe my technique, i think i am rotating everything. The easiest way to explain it is, basically i use the normal wrist technique, rotation clockwise. But i also use the rest of my arm, the best way to describe it is if you were to lock you wrist and just rotate you forearm which i also rotate clockwise. I then combine these 2 techniques to get the ball going really fast.
Your description is pretty accurate, but i think my shoulder is another pivot point, because it feels the burn, but I dont know how to describe it.

Haha...it is my job to describe things accurately, mate. However, your video is going so fast that I would have guessed already that I missed some details of your technique ;-) .
But you are absolutely right, we should not forget the shoulder part in using the Powerball. Of crucial importance to have lot of strength there too.
Good spinning to all of you.

I mean I was #9 when I did the score in july, I'm #11 since Chris Pegg and Mark Chaplin passed 14533 _________________ ^v^ Shazam ^v^
