Posté le: Ven Avr 07, 2006 5:49 pm Sujet du message: Powerballalyzer now available!
As I promised in the other thread, I am now releasing the first beta (although named version 0.1) of my program Powerballalyzer. The program requires no installation, just unzip and run. I've included a couple of sample files for you to try, although I suspect there will be other files you'd want to look at...
There are probably bugs, you can report them to me in this thread or by PM or mail, whichever you prefer. I guarantee that the program does not contain any kind of spyware, and that there are no (intentionally) malicious code in it.
There is a readme file, I suggest you read it. I don't want to repeat all that information here. The only parameter that may be confusing are the "Vanes/spokes". For a regular Powerball, this parameter should be 4. To see why, look at the rotor inside the Powerball...
Used properly, the accuracy should be within just a few RPMs. I've looked at some files, and I suspect that the internal Powerball counter may not always be as accurate as I'd like (especially for very high RPMs), but you can reach your own conclusions.
I've spent a few hours on this, and I'd be grateful for any comments/questions, so if you download the program, please leave a comment in this thread. Maybe it should be called "Threadware"?
And now, without further ado, here's the download link:

Yeah let us try it and report bugs before to send it on other forums...
Thank you a lot for your work on this!!
First try on my own record:
Easy to convert it with virtual dub, scan perfectly working, score between 13550 and 13800.
Precision is not of a few Rpms but about the same as the frequency analyser ( on this vid)
But it's far more easier to use and easierto read the score.
I'll go further next week, now I go back to my parents home :/ _________________ Help Gyrotek when you buy your Powerballs, use our banner:International, France, Thanks!!

Great software!!! it measured my score about ~5 or maybe even less rpm precision! if only it would show the scores in realtime! Just wanted to ask... what's gain? i recorder with a microphone and just using sound recorder nice... but once again, would you be able to make it realtime or even 90s strengh index timer with counter this software will lead you to success in powerballs and i really do think you should upgrade it even more _________________ sin cera, Arturas

Increase the gain and you increase the resulting image contrast. If you have trouble seeing the curve, you can try increasing the gain. It will not skew the measurements, it will only have a visual effect.
The problem with real-time is to be able to discern the Powerball rotational frequency from noise. Remember that for a real-time application the progam will have to do all the work by itself. In the current version you (the user) are using your eyes and experience to aid in finding the correct RPMs.
But who knows, I might experiment with real-time analysis at a later stage...

Yeah, i figured the gain out later. Mine was clearly seen on 0.3 About the realtime now. Actually, i do code a bit on c++ myself so i really understand the principles of making everything automatically and how it would be hard. But i thought that it may be accomplished by drawing a nice, solid curve on the main line (didn`t figure it out how it could be done). The curve, of course, should be a little smoother (feathered). Then finding maximums and minimums and displaying just them, because it wouldn`t be able to update very very fast. Well, realtime option is worth a try, and quite a challenge. And i know programmers, because i`m the one itself a little - they love challenges. Good luck if you`ll try making something. _________________ sin cera, Arturas

I did everything according to instructions in the readme file, but I constantly get an "Cannot open file" error when dragging and dropping one.
What am I doing wrong?

Just in case The Force you didn`t notice or accidently missed it - the sound file has to be .wav PCM 11025Hz, 8bit, Mono. Just double check it _________________ sin cera, Arturas

I doubt that you are getting "Cannot open file", since that error message does not exist. However, there is a message "File open error", but I cannot see why you would be getting that message if you (as the logged-in user) have read access for the file.
I could provoke this message by choosing (right-clicking the .exe) "Run As" and ticking off "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity", but that is not the normal mode a program is run.
If it was a file format error like donkapone said, you'd get the message "File format error".
Please specify exactly which error message you are getting, and I'll try to figure out what's wrong.

Sorry but I am using YOUR files for this now. So, i assume that these are correct or not?
And the error I get is "File open error"

Yes, those files are correct.. Would be kinda stupid if not... :-)
Where are the files stored? Are they stored deep in the file system, so that the path and filename are getting very long? What kind of Windows are you running, and in which language?
Try one thing: Extract the files to a subfolder on a root drive, like c:\test\ or something. Then drag one of the wav-files from that directory and onto the program (which is also started drom the same directory). Does that work?

Hi there,
The program now works. And apparently it had to do with too long path names.
Cool program.
Best regards,
