Cool stuff man. Cool stuff. Just a couple of things: it is really unconvenient when the starting window is not fixed, and when you press capture realtime, you have to move the windows so you would see the graph... it is not very fun when you spin the powerball... i think the program should be on the full resolution and the controls in the thinner line at the top and the graph window would be under it and when you start the realtime graph - the graph appears. I think it is really a bad idea having two windows. You will have to use the second window if you want any graph anyway. so why make two? _________________ sin cera, Arturas |

There were some reasons to use two windows, but to be honest, I cannot remember what they were...
On a more serious note, the main reason for keeping two windows is to have more room for the graph without having to think about the controls. But I sort of agree, it would perhaps be more user-friendly to have only one window. I'll think about it. |

Thanks. We all really appreciate your work.
oh and by the way... how about that zoom feature? are you going to make one? _________________ sin cera, Arturas |

| First of all, I am currently in the process of merging the program into one window instead of two. After that, I will consider the zoom feature. Just be advised that zooming on the bitmap itself has no real value, so the area you want to zoom into will have to be re-analyzed, which will take some time. |

I'm not feeling rushed... :-)
And I appreciate feedback. I do have a feeling that I am spending time on a project that only very few people will actually want to use, and that isn't very encouraging...
But I will spend some more time on it, and when it's ready, I will post a link to it on powerballs.com, and then we'll see if more people actually download it. |

Well, version 0.4 is out.
Link: Powerballalyzer v 0.4
The number of entries in the changelog does in no way reflect how much time I've spent on this version. I'm still not satisfied with the graphical layout (too much space in the upper right corner), but functionality is getting better.
Yes, there is now zoom...
It is in no way perfect, but it works reasonably well. Left-click and drag in the graph area to create a zoom rectangle, then release the mouse button and click it again inside the zoom rectangle to actually zoom. To revert to the main view, right click in the graph area.
As always, feedback appreciated! |

Man, this is becoming quite an amazing piece of software i don`t currently have any ideas for it right now... well, except that it would guess the Max RPM itself, but i understand that this would be very hard or almost impossible to guess it right. If i`ll come up with some smarter ideas - i`ll let you know. Good luck! _________________ sin cera, Arturas |

i've just download your very usefull program.
Could you explain how it works ?
Did you use fourier ?
What is the sense of the interference aspect in the diagram ? Is it just a calculus effect ?
Sorry for my poor english _________________ On n'a qu'eul ' bon temps qu'on s' donne...

No, it isn't exactly fourier. It is a different algorithm, based on an idea by a friend of mine. It is a bit difficult to explain, but imagine a rotating unity vector that is multiplied with the incoming data, and then summed in a sliding window. Clear as mud, right?
Using fourier would also certainly yield a similar result, but with this algorithm it is easier to target the exact RPM range I want to analyse.
The interference is a calculus/quantization/sliding window effect, best seen if you try to analyse a completely pure sine. It doesn't detract from the useability, though. |
