ok, now it works... but the grayscale version was more accurate i believe... no?
No, the grayscale version should actually be slightly less accurate since the color version has better resolution. The grayscale version only had 255 intensity levels, the color version much more.
The best way is to adjust gain until you get a thin red line along the curve, or at least at the top of the curve. There shouldn't be much red in the image, just enough to hint at the curve. Remember that gain is a floating point parameter, so you can adjust it in extremely small steps if desired. If you try analyzing the sweep curve that is included in the distribution, you will find that the default parameters are no good, since the curve has large amounts of red. Try it with the defualts, then set gain down to 0.01 (default is 1.0) and re-analyze. Now you will see a much thinner curve, with just a slight hint of red in the middle. That's about as perfect as it gets.
The moral is: Don't be afraid to adjust gain. The default window length is usually ok, but for very slowly rising curves it could be increased to maybe 3000 or 4000.

Very good program
Thanks a lot
Did you use it to check your amazing 14218?! Excellent score by the way, you're really in Hot Mode at the moment.
(I didn't use Frequency Analyser, but I compared the sound of your score with a 14207 and a 14312...yours was definitely up there, so a valid score. I've approved it, and you're now in the April Leader position!)
I'm over 14.3k+
And here is my previous record 13897
over 14k too, but not long enough _________________ Speed: 250Hz: 14702 (R) 15079 (L)

i did a graph on the world record of 16218 but there was quite a few interfering sounds so the graph wasn`t very nice _________________ sin cera, Arturas

Sorry...but how are you guys making wav files from the videos? Please provide me with a free program. On internet I can only find shareware shit, with trial periods of 30 days.

I'm using the simplest possible method... :-)
From the nForce control panel (for those with nVidia audio chipsets) I can choose which source should be used for recording. I have multiple choices, among them are "Microphone", "Aux", "LIne in" etc. However, there is also a choice called "Mono mix", which causes recording software to record, you guessed it, a mono mix of whatever sound the computer is playing.
So what I do is I just use a recording software (I'm using an old version of GoldWave, but Audacity also works, even the Windows sound recorder will work) and record while I play the video. It is a bit crude, but it works for any sound that the computer can play.

In the meantime I found virtualdub. This program works perfect for extracting wav files from videos, except for wmv video file format.....

I use a program called SUPER. It converts and extracts anything from everything. It is very easy to use and free too. Here is the link http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html _________________ sin cera, Arturas

Thanks...i'll try that at home later today.
In the meantime I am using a 30day trial converter. It works nice, but only for 30 days ;-)
Best regards,
The Force
P.S. The max rpm of both my 14204 and 14332 score are the same!! --> 14418rpm :-) But of course, the peak was wider in case of the 14332 score. I'll try to post the graphs tonight.
P.S.2: Feature request: please make a "Save to file" option in the tool ;-) _________________ Personal records:

I've got that as well...it was the only software I could easily find to convert my phone-camera 3GP files to MOVs or AVIs. Think it can do WAV files, but it struggles with making WMVs.
I use "ImToo MPEG encoder" to convert my new camera's MP4 files to something useable, (and smaller!).
Enda recommended some software called GIMP, for manipulating videos and images...not sure if that can create WAV files. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

I've experimented a bit with real-time analysis, and I think there is a potential... :-)
Basically, I haven't tried to make the program guess at the speed numerically (ie giving you a number), but the second best is to show the audio analysis as it progresses. You can then look at the window while spinning, and visually confirm the RPMs. Afterwards you can use the mouse to find the maximum more accurately.
If you set the audio mixer (in Windows) to "Mono mix", you can also use the real-time feature to analyse videos while playing them back.
Anyone interested?
There is some more work to do until I can release a new beta, but stay tuned!
I've changed a lot of things, and I have added real-time capture and analysis. You can watch the audio analysis in (nearly) real time while spinning your Powerball. See the readme for more details and changelog.
Please note: On (one of) my computer(s), the audio sample rate is slightly incorrect, which naturally results in a slightly incorrect analysis. To check your own computer, there is a number of things you can do, but the easiest is probably to play back the included "sweep_to_15krpm.wav"-file while holding the microphone up to the speaker. If the peak is at 15 krpm then the computer has the correct sample rate. If not, there is a problem, most likely with the sample rate, but the problem can also originate from an erroneous playback rate. In that case, it is better to use an external frequency source, such as a tuning fork (or any other stable sound source) and calculate the equivalent RPMs with the formula: RPM = (frequency * 60) / 4.
