i was just wondering... if something would be able to spin like 200k or 300k RPM (not powerball of course) it should produce about ~20kHz of sound, so that means we wouldn`t hear it spin...?
it's just theoretically - it's hard to imagine anything spinning at such speed

Wohoo! I got my (first) Powerball 250 Hz today, and within three minutes my personal best is (drumroll): 10693! I'm not starting completely from scratch, though. I tried my brother's worn (with a broken counter) Powerball last weekend, so I had a rough idea what to expect, but no idea what speed I was at.
However, to stay on topic for this thread, I found this page:

Has anyone tried the program? It is supposed to tell you the RPM in real time by sound from the microphone. I haven't tried it yet, but I probably will, even though it is made by a competing vendor. |

Good spot there...that looks like a fantastic piece of software, and JUST what I was hoping someone would write. I've downloaded it and will try it this evening... (Can't wait to go home now...how sad is that?!) 
P.S. Sorry for my excitement at that other program mroek, I'm sure your coding is a lot better!

How did it not work? Was it inaccurate? No reading at all? Did it not start? |

well it reads rpm if you shout into it  didn`t work by just spinning the powerball near the microphone

Perhaps the Gyrotwister makes a certain sound that it can read, as those are what the website talks about. I expect The Force has got one...he seems to have just about every type of "powerball" there is!

That's also what I thought, and after a while I gave up.... |
Shame, it looks pretty good. I can get a little blue light on when I spin the Powerball near the microphone, but that's as far as it goes.
EDIT: I've sent a note to the Gyrometer people, to ask if Gyrotwisters make a particular sound, and if someone would be able to re-write Gyrometer to work with Powerballs.
EDIT2: Gyrotwister have replied already. They say that Gyrometer should work with a Powerball, and only runs on a Windows PC. (Shrug)
