I was wondering how many of you perform a cleaning on your PB and what products and materials you use and how you do it.
I clean battered PB at least once a week, I open it up and clean all the plastic dust and residue it forms when it's a lot of dust. But I can't manage to clean the thin metalic film formed by the axle on the plastic base and cover. Any ideas?
The rotor on this PB has an up and down movement, not present on a new PB. Can this be fixed by the end user?
This products are supposed to last longer than the six weeks I've used it, three weeks ago I scored 13600+ I can no longer reach 13K. So I may not be doing the proper maintance work on them, any ideas?
Now the PB I use for speed I don't want to open it yet, I clean it using compressed air, but lately those 14k scores don't come so often, when other times I could do one after another. |

To be honest..I do not have answers here..but I am just as curious to those answers.
I do some maintenance on the powerballs, but that's quite irregularly. And the maintenance basically comprises wiping away the dust with an old tooth brush.
But what you say about metallic film...that's new for me...I actually never saw this..but I am going to make a better look next time. But if its metal (coming from the rotor axis) I assume that it should be possible to be removed by some cleaning solution.
Regards,

I rarely take my Powerballs apart to clean them, but when I do I simply blow out all the loose bits, then wipe around the interior and components with a dry cloth. I use my thumb-nail to scrape off any "bits" which have stuck to the rotor track.
For irregularities with performance, (scraping, vibrating), I find ten minutes of continuous fast use to be the best cleaner. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Damn!! why all the bad things happen to me? I don't give much use to my battled PB (using it since October 1st), just a few minutes almost every day, and it's loaded with plastic particles top and bottom, and the middle is worse, it's flooded with plastic residues that won't go away blowing air (i use compressed air), need to clean it up with a wet cloth and a soft brush (tooth) and scrape some residues from the ball, and I can't get rid of the metalic film caused by the axle rotation on the ball.
It's been abour four weeks that I last managed to score 13K on that ball. lately i suffer to score 12k, the ball simply delivers no torque. It does get better when I clean it up, but not like it should.
The grip is out of the question since I grip the ball firmly, and never for too long as for my hand being tired. |

Finally I got the ball to score above 13k (13256). I did as usual, open the ball clean it up with soap and warm water and soft toothbrush, i placed ring back to the ball on the same direction it was (as usual). Then I gave the ball uninterrupted use for a few minutes, it was making the roughtest noises I've heard from a PB, but I was feeling some torque which allowed me to score above 13K. Then a few minutes after I couldn't get it to score 13k.
After I decided to end the exercise I opened the ball again and it had the particles back as if I hadn't cleaned it in a week, with most of them stick to the both halves of the ball where the ring is placed.
What do you guys think? |

I use warm water, soap and a bursh. But I think I know what's cousing the the noises and where all the plastic particles come from, the inner sphere is touching the plastic ring and it has already dug into it.
What I don't know is what's causing the problem, could be that there is more play in the axle, or the holes on the plastic ring have worn out, like The Force once mentioned.
I first noticed a problem with the ball when I holded it with the counter facing to the floor and then spun it and look at it from the side, the inner sphere would move up and down unlike a new ball. Anyone knows how to deal with this? |

You should replace the rotor supportband. The holes have worn out. Had this problem too in the past.

P.S. But to bring back the discussion. How can I best remove the metal film on the inner track? Sand paper? Some cleaning solution? _________________ Personal records:

Sand paper? that could make the surface rought and worn out the plastic ring, doesn't it? I can be a very fine sanding paper, but still it would leave a rough surface.
Cleaning solution? I think I could be the best idea, but I was hoping to hear from some ingridients that it should and shouldn't contain. I once heard brasso cleaner was good, but I haven't find it. |

Sand paper works good, the surface will smooth out in about 10 secs of light powerballing. I have used as rough as 220 grit on a really bad surface and it smoothed out really fast so i wouldnt worry about a rough surface. As for cleaning a light soap and water work just fine. i wouldnt bother with brasso or anything like that. _________________ MAX SPEED:

220 is the grit (how rough it is) Most sand paper is good on both wood and metal. But if i had to choose i would go with metal since it will probably last longer. _________________ MAX SPEED:
