Hello all.
Tonight i tried my first proper 30,60 and 90 runs (i didn't know you were allowed to switch hands). however I am a little disappointed in my ability to do 90s runs. My problems is that it physically hurts to grip the powerball at a high speed for any amount of time.
The problem is mainly the knuckle joint of my small finger on my right hand and the base of my 4th finger. (id point out the areas on a picture, but my new webcam hast arrived yet). I find that during 90s and even 60s, i have to switch hands because of the physical pain of the powerball on my hands, rather than the muscular pain in my arms.
I hold the powerball with the roter in my palm and with my finger tips forming a sort of "circle" around the counter on the top. Any hints, tips or exercises that might help this?
Thanks alot,
Andy _________________ 12,063 (R) 9824 (L)

It's funny, I've been Powerballing years, yet rotor-to-falm for me hurts my knuckles and joints a bit. I just don't feel it fits my hand very well.
Joint muscles are aggravated by a Powerball really, especially if you go hard at it. Best thing really would be a complete rest...I've seen people with joint pain having to rest for months!
Does it not hurt when you do speed runs? _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

speed runs are not soo bad as they are short. My problem must be, that when i do 90s and even 60s my grip increases as i get towards the end of the run.
Like...when you grit your teeth (or whatever that saying is) when your trying to lift something heavy, i must be doing the same with the powerball at, whenever my arm gets tired, i grip super hard to try and keep going...and this must be damaging my fingers
anyway, i just beat my speed record, and at the same time broke the 12k barrier (12,063). I did this from cold though, as with all my records...its seems warming up dosent help me much at the moment.
probably once i get better, a warm up will help/be necessary. Anyways, im off to try some strength runs with the counter in my palm, see if it helps any...maby il just have to get used to it. _________________ 12,063 (R) 9824 (L)

I would've thought that the grip itself only really comes into play on speed runs, as you're going at your maximum speed, which in turn causes the Powerball to exert more force, which in turn means you need to grip harder.
You might want to try tight-fitting grippy gloves, or a product like SurGrip. (Google it.) It'll help you "stick" to the Powerball, and mean you don't need to grip so tight. I use SurGrip for the Metal as I find it very difficult to hold onto otherwise.
Also, if you're relatively new to Powerballs, 90s runs can be quite a strain. Just take it easy and don't overdo it. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

My grip strength is never a factor in speed runs, only endurance. The muscles that dictate your grip strength are the muscles in your forearm, so once my forearm gets exhausted, my grip weakens. _________________ Scores:

At first you will want to take it pretty easy until you get really used to it. I used to have a lot of pain in my hand during endurance too, but now its not so much of a problem. What I do is practice lots of endurance where you dont use your arm a lot, and try to use your wrist and hand to do most of the work. That kind of brings your hand and wrist up to par with your arm. I also do some hand exercises with a foam squeezy ball. _________________ 15yr. old on my way to the top! |

Thanks for the help everyone. Il take it easy for a while. i should be getting my metal tomorrow, so il probably just do some slow, but long runs with that for a few days, build up a bit of strength/endurance.
also i might get a tennis ball or something, use that to squeeze and improve my grip/Hand strength.

Quite cool, looks like it was inspired by Obiw4n's and The Force's. _________________ 15yr. old on my way to the top! |
